Acupuncture for Weight Loss and Management

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the belief is that excessive weight gains are caused mainly by an imbalance in the body due to a malfunction of the spleen and liver organ systems. Acupuncture zeros in on specific body areas to effect weight loss, including endocrine system and kidneys, which are addressed to treat water retention and to stimulate nerve and hormonal rebalance. The spleen and thyroid gland are also targeted to effect sugar and hormonal rebalancing. Finally, the adrenal and ovary glands are included to treat weight gain due to menopause or Premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Being overweight is a major risk factor for serious health concerns such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, hypertension, certain forms of cancer, and more. In addition to physical consequences, being overweight can have significant impacts on an individual's mental well-being. It can lead to lowered self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and ultimately, have damaging effects on quality of life.

Acupuncture is aimed at getting to the root of the issue by correcting internal imbalances and working with the body to lose weight and restore health. With regular acupuncture treatments, balanced functioning of the organ systems can be restored, resulting in improved metabolism, increased energy, detoxification of the body, and loss of excess water and fat. In addition, the insertion of needles in acupuncture points can have a profound effect to reduce stress, or help put a stop to emotional eating and give a boost to one's willpower.
